Horse Training, Development + Sales

Developing capable horses in body and mind.

I love developing horses—especially young horses, horses returning from injury, and horses who are telling us that something about the current plan is not working.

My training combines traditional horse development with a physiotherapy lens. I want horses to understand their job, have the physical capacity to do it, develop resilience, and feel confident enough to participate willingly.

The horses I love working with

  • Young Horses

    Building the basics thoughtfully:

    • Confidence

    • Balance

    • Strength

    • Coordination

    • Clear communication

    • Gradual exposure

    • Appropriate physical development

  • The Horse Who "Just Isn't Quite Right"

The horse may technically be sound but:

    • Feels uneven

    • Struggles with certain movements

    • Has changed behavior

    • Has lost confidence

    • Is not progressing as expected

    • Feels physically underprepared

    • Has a complicated history

Rather than immediately labeling the horse difficult, I look at movement, physical capacity, behavior, equipment, training history, and the demands being placed on the horse.

  • Rehabilitation + Return to Work

In-barn rehabilitation belongs here now, and I think that makes sense.

Rehabilitation does not end when the tissue heals.

The transition from veterinary rehabilitation back to meaningful training requires progressive loading, strength, coordination, confidence, and careful observation.

Horses based at Khaleesi Acres can receive:

    • Controlled exercise

    • Physiotherapy support

    • Progressive loading

    • Groundwork

    • Strength and conditioning

    • Return-to-riding progression

    • Ongoing reassessment

    • Communication with veterinarians and farriers

Thoughtful development for the horse’s next chapter.

Shelley Thomas Performance partners with Khaleesi Acres in developing and preparing select horses for sale.

My role goes beyond getting a horse ready to show to prospective buyers. I want to understand the horse in front of me, develop the physical and mental skills they need for their next job, and help identify the type of rider and environment where they are most likely to thrive.

That means asking:

  • What job best suits this horse?

  • What does the horse need physically?

  • Where are the gaps in strength, confidence, or training?

  • What type of rider will complement the horse?

  • What environment will help them succeed long term?

Sales horses will be developed through a combination of training, physiotherapy, conditioning, and thoughtful management before being offered through Khaleesi Acres.
